Is nothing sacred? In a hyperconnected world with few boundaries between work, social media and home, it’s easy to lose a sense of the sacred in our relationships and routine. In this chaotic and changing era, labyrinths provide a sure path for uncertain times. By stepping out of our schedules and into Kairos time, we can see a bigger picture of life. Beyond the rigmarole, labyrinths create a field where we can meet ourselves (and others) to gain clarity, insight and inspiration.

In this online workshop, Veriditas Faculty member Lars Howlett will share a story of losing a sense of the sacred and his personal transformation through the labyrinth. We’ll discuss how labyrinths create sacred space and sacred time with break out groups to reflect on what we hold sacred. A guided handheld labyrinth finger walk to music will invite us to deepen our personal practice and allow for new perspectives. Through slideshows and short films, we’ll consider how labyrinths create ‘a watering hole for the soul’.

This Qualifying Workshop serves as an introduction to the labyrinth and opportunity to share the experience with others. Guidelines for walking labyrinths by finger or foot will be outlined and participants will have a chance to meet and speak with other labyrinth enthusiasts. A Qualifying Workshop also serves as a prerequisite for a Facilitator Training and provides trained facilitators an opportunity to get to the heart of their practice and refresh their connection to the labyrinth. Lars Howlett designs, builds, and walks labyrinths as a practice in mindfulness. He is a Veriditas Faculty Member and Advanced Labyrinth Facilitator, trained by the Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress at Grace and Chartres Cathedrals. He was the apprentice to Master Builder Robert Ferré, learning the art of sacred geometry and methods of creating proportional and precise Classical and Medieval patterns. Lars was named a Master Builder in 2017 and is based in the San Francisco Bay Area working professionally as Discover Labyrinths LLC.

Now leading a new generation in designing and building labyrinths, Lars works hand-in-hand with individuals and institutions in creating sacred space.
