Spirituality, Spiritual Health and Education: Veriditas Qualifying Workshop with Dr. Chi-Shan Lam

Introduction
With the increasing emphasis on holistic health, holistic care and holistic human development, it is not uncommon for professionals searching a holistic tool to support their services. According to Lam’s study (2024), labyrinth is a holistic care tool that facilitates intrapersonal, interpersonal and transpersonal conversation. This medieval walking tool is a valuable spiritual resource in a modern hospital.

Workshop description
This 5-hour training workshop is organized by the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited – Easy HUB and the NTEC Pain Management Centre. It aims to provide the knowledge of the use of labyrinth walking in the context of holistic health, holistic care and holistic human development. It also provides an experiential learning in using labyrinth walking for reflection on spirituality, spiritual health and education. 

Objectives:
1. To understand the relationship of Labyrinth and spirituality/spiritual health
2. To experience the Labyrinth and reflect the spirituality/spiritual health education

Content:
1. To experience the process by walking an indoor Labyrinth
2. To make a handheld Labyrinth
3. Discussion and reflection

Dr. Chi-Shan Lam is a specialist Anaesthesiologist serving in public hospital in Hong Kong SAR, China. He is a graduate of the Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology. His thesis “Theologically-orientated action research on Labyrinth, Spirituality and Pain Medicine” (https://doi.org/10.25411/aru.27951762.v1) is based on his research “A quantitative and qualitative evaluation of labyrinth walking on chronic pain patient” which is kindly supported by the Hong Kong Pain Society research grant (2015).

Dr. Lam is a Veriditas facilitator trainer/faculty who has been offering qualifying workshop for the local communities since 2019, and facilitator training workshop since 2021. He is one of the founders and currently the chairperson of the Hong Kong Labyrinth Society.
