VIRTUAL LABYRINTH SUMMER SCHOOL: For the Love of Chartres Labyrinths with Lars Howlett and special guest Robert Ferré

Immerse yourself in the transcendent archetype of the Chartres Labyrinth as we trace its saga and secrets through stories and studies by modern day disciples.

The most widely recreated and beloved labyrinth today, the Chartres Labyrinth is an exquisite design that has turned around the lives of countless people from all over the world. Inlaid in the Chartres Cathedral in 1200, the labyrinth has been wedded to this beloved pilgrimage site, soaking in that holy space and reflecting its sacred geometry for over 800 years. Join Veriditas Faculty Member Lars Howlett and his mentor Robert Ferré for a deep dive into the history and mystery of the Chartres Labyrinth. We’ll consider its design and variations, as well as how the center rosette and perimeter lunations took labyrinths to a whole new level. Photographs from Chartres and stunning replicas from around the globe will showcase some awe-inspiring renditions of this medieval pattern. 

Special guest Robert Ferré is one of the foremost experts on the design having traveled 53 times to Chartres to walk, study, and connect with the cathedral and labyrinth. The 5-hour workshop will be presented live on Zoom with a half hour break and opportunity for questions, group chat, and connecting with other participants. A comprehensive digital workbook will be provided as a PDF and the unedited recording of the live session will be offered to participants for reference and review for one month. Attending the workshop live is encouraged, but not required and couples or friends joining from a single screen can register with a guest for a reduced price.  

Note: Step-by-step instructions on drawing the labyrinths will not be part of this workshop, though variations of the design and tools and techniques for creating them will be discussed. A lover of all things labyrinth, Lars Howlett drew his first seed patterns in the sand off the coast of California in his late twenties. He enrolled in his first Veriditas workshop in 2010 led by Robert Ferré at Grace Cathedral. The next year he travelled to Chartres for the labyrinth facilitator training with Lauren Artress following his roots to Scotland and Sweden where he visited labyrinths on the islands Iona and Gotland. From 2012-15 he was the apprentice to master builder Robert Ferré, inheriting his tools, techniques, and teaching curriculum. Lars joined the Veriditas Faculty, leading design and building workshops at ten iterations of Labyrinth Summer School. Six years ago, he became a full-time professional labyrinth maker under the auspices of Discover Labyrinths LLC. He was a board member of The Labyrinth Society for three years and the coordinator of World Labyrinth Day from 2013-2018. He became and Advanced Facilitator in 2019 and joined the staff of Veriditas in 2021 to support webinars, expand facilitator resources, and develop social media to further the labyrinth as a tool for personal and global transformation. Robert Ferré is among the world’s most experienced labyrinth makers, having worked full time as a labyrinth artist for almost two decades.
