Conferences, festivals, and public events are a great way to introduce the labyrinth experience to a broad audience. This Summer Veriditas presented two labyrinths at an immense convention center in Chicago at the Parliament of World Religions to over 7,000 participants! Learn from Veriditas faculty members Lars Howlett and Judith Tripp about the proposal and planning process, creating a facilitator team, and holding space in a chaotic and vast environment. Hear stories, view photos, and gleam insights from Lars and Judith along with other volunteer facilitators on the team. VIA members are invited to join a post-webinar Q&A to ask further questions and discuss your own experiences and upcoming projects.

The spiritual path of the labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey of life and inner spiritual pilgrimage. By walking the path to the center of the labyrinth, we symbolically journey to the inner self and to the Source/Spirit/God. Experiencing the labyrinth by walking or tracing is an ancient soul tending spiritual and prayer practice.

SoulCollage® is a creative, intuitive, inspiring, and fun process using images to discover the deeper self and Source/Spirit/God. SoulCollage® helps access the sacred within through symbolic images and is also sacred soul tending process.

In this in-person retreat/workshop, two powerful soul tending practices for spiritual renewal, connection and self-care come together to create an experience of prayer, creativity, connection, and Inner Wisdom. We join others throughout the world who will walk the labyrinth on this day. After a shared labyrinth walk, we will create SoulCollage® cards and share those cards with each other.

Fee – $95. Participants receive a beginner packet of 12 mat boards, 12 protective sleeves, glue, and access to a large assortment of images, several labyrinth walks, and access to acres of natural surroundings. Bring your own lunch. (microwave and refrigerator available) Water, tea and coffee available. Please bring a journal, and an open heart and mind.

Refund policy: No refunds will be given for cancellations made LESS than 1 week prior to the retreat. No shows no refund.

Facilitator: Christy Wesselman, certified Veriditas labyrinth facilitator, SoulCollage® facilitator, trained spiritual director, retreat coordinator, Holy Fire® Reiki master, trained End of Life Doula

    Betty (Elizabeth) Lopez Towey

It was at Silver Bay on Lake George that Betty was first introduced to the labyrinth. A profound experience led to a deepening interest which soon became a passion. She was trained as a labyrinth facilitator by Lauren Artress in 2001 and has helped to build the outdoor labyrinth at Silver Bay Conference Center on Lake George, has painted canvas labyrinths with various communities and has carried her own painted canvas labyrinth into New York City Schools, Colleges, Medical Schools, Churches and Synagogues.  She has continued her study of the labyrinth with Lauren Artress at Chartres Cathedral, and is now an Advanced Labyrinth Facilitator and member of the Veriditas Faculty.

After 20 years of teaching and out of the classroom support roles, Betty was inspired to pursue an administrative position through her own experience on the labyrinth, which led to her starting a New York City Public School. As the principal and founder, an important part of building this new progressive public school was to support adults and children in mind, body and spirit by incorporating the labyrinth in its development. It is an exciting time to consider how to inspire, support and grow schools that work in the important area of spiritual growth, as part of teaching and nourishing the whole child.

As a life long seeker, Betty is also an active  member of the diverse and inclusive Spiritual Life Team at Silver Bay Conference Center on Lake George in New York. She is a trained Spiritual Advisor and Reiki Master and is responsible for the Labyrinth programs, which are offered to conferences and retreats, including large and small groups of ministers, educators, business organizations and those seeking respite here at Silver Bay.

Nathan Wiles is the founder of Innate Creations, an educating labyrinth building and design company. Nathan utilizes skill and experience from his former career as an Interior Designer and Project Manager to help create his labyrinth builds and workshops.

Along with his 30 years of building and designing experience, he was trained by an established Feng Shui consultant and has practiced various meditation techniques.  Now, with close to ten years of experience in both labyrinth designing and building, Nathan is able to join the collective consciousness of the individual or group to help develop their thought onto “canvas.” His passion is to bring a secular understanding to the mystery surrounding us in such a diverse world, while increasing the Labyrinth community through the education and collaboration with public schools, corporations and wellness facilities.

"Every season is one of becoming, but not always one of blooming. Be gracious with your ever-evolving self.”
     B. Oakman

Life, like the labyrinth is a sacred journey - with twists and turns along the way: dreams, challenges, transitions, gratitude, unexpected life events and letting go.

Where are you on the path in this season of your life? How do you find your way to the center?

This workshop is an invitation to take intentional time out of the routine of  your daily life, joining others for rest and renewal both individually and collectively in community.

We will engage in the intuitive spiritual practices of the Labyrinth and Soul Collage® to reflect and listen deeply.

Sharry Nyberg:  is Co-Founder of Glide into Grace Retreats. She is passionate about sharing the labyrinth with others, training with the Rev. Dr.Lauren Artress in San Francisco in 2002 and becoming a Veriditas certified Advance Labyrinth Facilitator in 2019.  She is a trained SoulCollage® Facilitator and a creator of art. She retired after serving the United Church of Christ for over 21 years and continues to lead retreats, workshops and creative opportunities, as a spiritual companion on the journey, holding sacred space for others to experience and engage in practices noticing moments of sacred-nicity.

SoulCollage® is a powerful tool for exploring liminal or threshold space, a place of transition, a state of unknowing, a time of waiting. Standing on the threshold of a door or at the entrance to a labyrinth, open to uncertainty and able to “love the questions themselves” can be a doorway to personal transformation.

Symbolically, doorways are portals into other worlds, invitations to new places, and openings to fresh perspectives. Doors symbolize transition and change, rebirth and new beginnings. Doors themselves can signify protection - a place of safety and refuge, or a locked door can indicate separation or lack of freedom.

We live in a world of uncertainty and developing the ability to become comfortable with the unknown in these confusing times can strengthen us on the inside and prepare us to handle whatever arises with compassion, calm and patience.

You do not have to have any experience with SoulCollage® or the labyrinth to attend this retreat. Both these tools meet you where you are.

In this four night, five day retreat we’ll explore the concept of liminal spaces and thresholds using doors and pathways as metaphors and mediums of self-discovery. Both the labyrinth and the SoulCollage® offer us ways to access our own inner resources and intuition. Used together they amplify and deepen each other because they are both languages of the soul. They enable us to access our inner world and deepen our understanding of ourselves as we journey on this path called life.

    Activities will include:

    • Creating your own Collage Finger Labyrinth
    • Creating Doorway cards to explore threshold spaces
    • SoulCollage® card making time with lots of images provided, including Catherine’s copyright free images
    • Ways to use your cards as doorways to your unconscious
    • Facilitated labyrinth walks
    • Time for you to walk in the woods

    You will receive:

    • A 60 page book full of Doorway images to use on your cards
    • A kit with supplies to create your Collage Finger labyrinth including a wooden 12x12 inch base for your labyrinth
    • A box of SoulCollage® supplies which includes 12 card backings, clearbags, frame and glue stick

There will be an unlimited supply of images to use to create cards and your “Doorway to the Unconscious.” The pace of the retreat will be slow so you can dive deep in a creative and relaxing atmosphere.

During our time together we will use both the labyrinth and the SoulCollage® process as guides to access our own inner resources and intuition. Using one of these practices alone will make a difference in your life, but used together they amplify and deepen each other because they are both languages of the soul. They enable us to access our inner wisdom and deepen our understanding of ourselves as we journey on this path called life. Both processes allow us to create a sense of order out of the information that bombards us from all directions, and both encourage us to develop a higher level of awareness which enables us to thrive in the complex and ever-changing world in which we live.

    Activities will include:

    • Creating SoulCollage® cards using symbolic imagery
    • Creating your own simple Finger Labyrinth
    • Learning ways to add the symbolic energy of the labyrinth to your SoulCollage® cards
    • Using your SoulCollage® cards as a doorway to your intuitive wisdom
    • A facilitated Labyrinth walk

This workshop will give you an embodied experience of the labyrinth together with a creative and easy way to process your experience. During our time together you will experience walking the labyrinth and creating with images to make your own unique collage cards. We will see what messages arise from within as we explore symbol and metaphor.

Each participant will receive a kit containing a set of 10 blank cards to make your SoulCollage® cards together with clearbags to protect them, a glue stick and materials for your finger labyrinth. A rich selection of collage images will also be provided.

This workshop is a unique storytelling event that promises to take you on a journey deep into the river bottom of your soul. The featured story, titled "The Nubian Woman," is a powerful tale of anguish and betrayal. Through her struggles, she embarks on a journey to the wound inside, ultimately leading to transformation and healing. Come join us and be transported to that liminal space inside where your soul is transformed through the power of storytelling.

We will use the Labyrinth to weave our way through the many lessons by traveling through the circuits to meet the old oozing hag at the river bottom, lick her wounds, receive our ancestral necklace, and return to the world with our radiant and happy soul. The Labyrinth provides us with safety, guidance, and courage as we do the hard work to heal our inner wounds. As a qualifying workshop, you will discover how to use the Labyrinth as a valuable tool for inner healing, receiving guidance, and quieting the fear within.
