During Easter, 2006, Diane Winingder of the Friends of the Labyrinth at Audubon Park, greeted and welcomed facilitators from across America with open arms, warmth, and hospitality, as only New Orleans can. As Facilitators, we were drawn to come and celebrate, offer hope, and to dedicate New Orleans's first permanent labyrinth located in historical Audubon Park.

This weekend journey was filled with walking the magnificent eleven-circuit, Chartres-style labyrinth nestled between the glorious oak and sycamore trees of Audubon park. As day transitioned into evening, the light from the torches guided us as we walked. On one evening the night's walk was accompanied by Middle Eastern flavored, peaceful music.

The office of the Governor of Louisiana allowed us to tour extensively areas ravaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We physically walked the devastated neighborhood of the Ninth Ward and sensed the depth of massive loss, grief and destruction. Circling together, we offered healing to this amazing city as they go forward to rebuild and renew.

Easter Sunday brought Reverend Dr. Lauren Artress, founder of Veriditas, Reverend François Legaux, Rector Emeritus of Chartres Cathedral in France, and Archbishop Hannon, former Archbishop of New Orleans Diocese, joined together to dedicate the Audubon Park Labyrinth. Waters from the great rivers of the world, including the Mississippi and Ninth Ward, consecrated this sacred space. Musicians played and the community came together with joy, healing, and celebration on a glorious day of resurrection and new beginnings.
