Living Fully, the Second Half of Life:

A retreat in Argentina for men over 50

In a little town called La Falda, Argentina, there is retreat center called Alla Arriba dedicated to supporting people seeking to know the truth of their personal and spiritual path. Veriditas first came to know of La Falda when we were invited to come build a Legacy Labyrinth in the town square.  This extraordinary experience opened up a new connection for Veriditas and a very special place for gatherings and retreats.

Where: Alla Arriba Retreat Center, La Falda, Argentina

In March of 2016, a men’s retreat will be held for 10 men to explore making the last half of their lives meaningful and filled with purpose. Using the labyrinth as a template for our work, men will have a chance to talk about what life has meant, how meaning has changed with time and when looking ahead how to define and take charge of our path for the second half of life.

The experience will include discussion with one another of what life has been up to this time. We will explore what it means to construct new directions based on the wisdom our years have  taught us. These explorations will be personal and interpersonal, and we will use reading materials to stimulate thought.  We will walk the labyrinth at the Retreat Center as well as the one built in the town square. There will be time to hike and explore the land. There will be opportunities to participate in a Temazcal Ceremony (the Argentine equivalent to a sweat lodge).  We will also be treated to a classic Argentine Asado (a very wonderful Argentine Barbeque) and be entertained with live authentic music of the culture.  Massage and other body work will be available for an additional cost.

Led by seasoned therapist and Veriditas trained labyrinth facilitator, Milton Woolley, MFT, the retreat is designed as one of self-discovery and self-exploration in a unique and beautiful place in the “skirt” of the Andes.

Milton Woolley, Marriage, Family Therapist has been working with youth, couples and individuals for 40 years. He has directed a youthful offender’s diversion clinic for 8 years in the beginning of his career and been in private practice for 32 years a good portion of which was dedicated to work with men’s issues. As he approaches his 71st year of life he has developed a keen interest in the lack of meaningful rites of passage for men over 50 years of age in our culture. There is a deep need to define purpose, forms of creativity and meaning in these later years.
